***PRESS RELEASE: April 29, 2011 - Selection made for WCCC Major Public Artwork

A partnership between the Winnipeg Arts Council Public Art Program and the Winnipeg Cultural Capital of Canada 2010 project will permit a combination of resources to commission a major public art piece that celebrates the arts in Winnipeg. Such a partnership will permit the largest public art work to be created in Winnipeg through the Winnipeg Arts Council Public Art Program to date.

Winnipeg’s Public Art Program includes permanent installations in several locations in Winnipeg, a unique community art initiative and an artist-in-residence component. An iconic public art project located in a prominent location in Winnipeg will be a natural progression of this steadily growing and well-respected program. The site for the artwork has been chosen carefully in collaboration with City staff in order to best complement other city amenities and achieve the greatest public engagement.
