First Place winner at the Canadian Music Competitions at the age of nineteen, Kirk Starkey’s original and expressive cello playing has led to collaborations with artists in Canada, the US and Europe. Kirk's innovative work integrating live electronics with cello began in 2001 during a residency at FABRICA (Treviso, Italy). Kirk's abilities as an engineer and programmer give a tightly integrated expression to his original music.

No stranger to collaborations outside of classical music, Kirk's recent projects include work with Lou Rhodes (ex-Lamb), and Elsiane (Nettwerk/Universal). Kirk’s work with Tonmeister and composers Daniel Dettwiler and Ramon Schneider (Basel, Switzerland) can be heard in permanent installation at the new BMW Museum in Munich, Germany.

Formal training at the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), The Harid Conservatory (FL) and the Staatliche Hochschule fuer Musik Freiburg. Recipient of CFMX Scholarship, the award for the most outstanding student in the RCM Professional Program, and the Aldo Parisot Cello Prize (Boca Raton FL). Kirk Starkey and Sara Traficante have been performing together as Wires and Pipes since 2005. Kirk performs on a cello by Masa Inokuchi (1999).
