Janet Stewart

Friday, August 27th - Hosting 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Janet Stewart - Host of CBC News Winnipeg at 5, 5:30 and 6 pm on CBC Television

Janet Stewart was born and raised in Nova Scotia. Even though she's lived in Manitoba for nine years, she still fears saying the word "car" live on TV.

Apparently, that's when her Maritime accent shows up.

"Karrrr," her co-workers laugh. You said "karrrr!"

Janet studied journalism at the University of King's College in Halifax. She went on to report and anchor for CBC Radio, CTV and Global in Halifax.

She moved to Winnipeg in 2001 to anchor CTV News, then joined CBC Manitoba in 2007.

In 2009, Janet was nominated for a Best News Anchor Gemini. That same year, CBC News Winnipeg was also nominated in the Best Newscast category.

Besides her journalistic credentials, Janet is well known for her contributions to the community.

After moving to Winnipeg, Janet embraced the city and everything it has to offer, from the legendary friendliness of Manitobans to the diverse neighbourhoods and communities that make Winnipeg so vibrant.

Janet has made connecting with the community one of her top priorities, working with several organizations. She has served as the Honorary Chairperson of Easter Seals and the Parkinson Society of Manitoba. She has also lent her time and energy to the United Way of Winnipeg, the Winnipeg Humane Society, Reaching Equality Employment Solutions, CancerCare Manitoba, Junior Achievement of Manitoba and other groups.

Janet lives in Winnipeg with her husband and their dog, a pug named Albert.

Watch CBC News Winnipeg weekdays at 5, 5:30 and 6 p.m. and Late Night at 10:55 p.m. on CBC Television.
