emptyful on the move

May 12, 2012 – Winnipeg – A major new work of public art was on the move on Saturday morning, giving downtown residents and workers quite an unusual early morning view.

The work, emptyful, by Vancouver artist Bill Pechet, is a new public art piece that will be installed as a component of the Millennium Library Park project. The structure, which is 35 feet tall and 30 feet at its widest, was transported to the downtown library at 5am on Saturday morning, where it will be installed over the next couple of months. Beginning with this journey, this new artwork will be a permanent, noticeable presence in the downtown area from now on.

emptyful is funded by both the Winnipeg Cultural Capital of Canada through the Department of Canadian Heritage, and the Winnipeg Arts Council’s Public Art program. It is the largest public art project in Winnipeg to date.
