Born in Seoul, Korea, 24-year-old cellist Brian Yoon started music lessons at the age of five. After immigrating to Canada, he continued cello studies with Judith Fraser at the Vancouver Academy of Music, where he was awarded the Certificate in Music Performance. Mr. Yoon has been a prize-winner at the BC Provincial Festival, the Canadian Music Competition, and the NACO Bursary Competition. As soloist, he has been featured in performances with the Vancouver Academy Orchestra, the University of Ottawa Orchestra, the Guelph Symphony Orchestra, and the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra at the National Arts Centre. In past summers, he has attended the international Morningside Music Bridge Program and the NAC’s Young Artist Program, as well as participating in master classes at Banff, Domaine Forget and Orford, led by such eminent cellists as Aldo Parisot, Lynn Harrell, Philippe Muller, Lluis Claret and Laurence Lesser. Mr. Yoon holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Ottawa, and he is currently pursuing graduate studies at Rice University with Desmond Hoebig.
